BUTTON

Unique ID: SOMDOR-BCAEB5

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Silver button comprising domed upper part made from sheet with milled edge and stamped central decoration of a flowerhead; shank applied on centre at back. Form, facture and decoration suggest a 17th century dating. However this may be all that remains of a pair of cufflinks which would date this object much later, to the late 17th or even early 18th century (see 2006 T459). An amended and more cautious dating would probably be late 17th Century. In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 (Dr Dora Thornton, Curator of Renaissance Collections, The British Museum).

Notes:

This is a disclaimed treasure find, reference 2006 T403.
