STUD

Unique ID: SF2690

Workflow status: Published Find published

Copper alloy heraldic stud; shield-shaped plate, slightly curving in profile; reverse has an integral attachment rivet of sub-circular section, the end of which has been hammered flat to hold the stud in place; front decorated with a heraldic design consisting of a chequered pattern inlaid with red enamel; all surface finish has been lost though it is most likely that this stud originally bore the arms of the Warrene family (Chequey, Or and Gules) who held extensive lands in Norfolk and Suffolk.
