PLATE BROOCH

Unique ID: SF2452

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Copper alloy oval plate brooch, probably originally gilded with either an intaglio or a conical glass setting in the centre. Missing pin, very corroded around spring lug (?may have had iron pin); extremely corroded and very abraded around margins and central rib. Punched motifs in outer band not discernible, possibly punched rings. Surviving diameters 23mm x 18mm. The size would be smaller than normal for the glass centre-boss type, Hattatt's gilded oval with intaglio gemstone variant is generally nearer.

Notes:

This record was created before the Portable Antiquities Scheme began using the Central Database. We are aware that this record may fall below our usual standards of recording, and we are working to rectify this.
