A copper alloy thimble which dates from AD 1620 - 1650. The thimble is 24.1mm tall with straight sides and a domed top. It has an external diameter of 16.5mm. It is a two part construction with the join between the dome and the sides being evident. There is also a longitudinal soldered seam. The rim is thickened. Above this is a plain band with a maker's mark. This may be a cinquefoil but is not distinct. There is then a raised band and a recessed band before the circular indentations which cover the rest of the side. There is another plain band at the top of the side. The top is also decorated with neat rows of circular indentations. This thimble is a Holmes Type 1 composite, made in the Netherlands between 1620-50. It is in very good condition.
