A complete copper-alloy (probably) Liss-type penannular bracelet/arm-ring of Rowland's Class C. Liss-type bracelets are characterised by the form of the incised decoration. This example has multiple zones of geometric decoration of pairs of surmounted lozenges alternately with chevrons in fields between groups of five or six transverse grooves. The bracelet has an oval cross-section. The terminals are unaligned and are not expanded. Surfaces which appear to have been hammered can be seen on the inner surface. This artefact has survived extremely well. Penannular bracelets decorated within fields formed of groups of transverse parallel lines can be found illustrated in Burgess & Coombs (1979, 74; fig. 2.6).

Notes:

As Sally Worrell (2002, 89) states: 'Bracelets of this type and other mid-Bronze Age 'ornament horizon' artefacts are not common finds. These bracelets concentrate in the southern counties of Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset and West Sussex and examples are also known from Suffolk and Norfolk. Incised decorated bracelets form part of a North European tradition, which has led to the suggestion that the examples from southern England may be imported from northern France, although this theory has been questioned.'
