CLOTH SEAL

Unique ID: IOW-0DDF13

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

A cast lead cloth seal of Post-Medieval date. Late sixteenth or very early seventeenth century (c. AD 1550 - c. AD 1605). Disc 1 Burred over rivet head: Portcullis with surrounding placename missing. disc 2: XXV. The 25 (possibly incomplete) is presumably the pounds weight or the yards length.

Notes:

This seal is one of the basic county series, in which just the placename around the main device changed (and in this case is offstruck) - known for more than a dozen counties now (2007).
