Object type certainty: Certain

A small asymmetrical copper alloy buckle with central bar dateable from 1600-1700 AD. The buckle has a rounded front loop and straight back bearing three roundels. The rounded front loop bears two simple rounded knops at the top and bottom. The narrow bar has two protrusions at either end. The pin is missing, although a small amount of corrosion on the bar indicates that it was made of iron. The buckle is 23.42mm long, 18.15mm wide, 2.31mm thick and weighs 2.44g. It has not been possible to find an exact parallel for this buckle, although one from Alphington in Southern Devon is of simiar size and shape but without the decorative features of this buckle. The Alphington buckle has been dated to the 17th century (Read, 1995, 141, no.895).
