Roman Vessel: Base from a closed vessel (for example a jug or flagon). Roman oxidised ware, possibly once colour coated New Forest ware. The break is old and very worn. There is an 'X' scratched into the base, possibly a batch- or tally-mark. The surface has been burnt. The base has a diameter of 37.60mm, and it weighs 36.73 grams.
