Blade fragment from a cast copper alloy flat axe. The axe is broken in a roughly straight line after the blade has curved inwards from the blade tip. The break is well patinated and consistant with the surface patination suggesting that it was broken in antiquity. The cutting edge is gently curved and worn, and its current proximity to the main body of the axe, the angle of the cutting edge, and the relatively short splayed edge tips suggest that the cutting edge has been reground a number of times. The width of the cutting edge is 59mm from tip to tip. The thickness across the break is 12mm. The length between the break and the line of the tip of the cutting edge is 10mm. The tip extends circa 6mm beyond the line of the side of the axe. The width of the break is 37mm.
