A copper-alloy oval shaped plate brooch, a later Roman British product of 2nd-3rd century date, of Hattats 'gilded glass centre-boss type', nos 173, 172, 1210, 641 and 1212 (Hattat 1989, 364, fig 223) The brooch is worn and a fragment of one side and the pin are missing and the catchplate is incomplete. It has a central oval recess which would have originally contained a setting, traces of a dark blue glass remain within this. Surrounding the central recess is a gilded border, which is further decorated with opposing rows of zigzags, with their points touching. On the back face there is an integral double pin lug with the remains of a wire copper-alloy pin attached to it. All that remains of the catchplate is a vertical ridge. This brooch measures 25.15mm in length and 18.04mm in width.
