DRESS FASTENER (DRESS)

Unique ID: BUC-146715

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A lead alloy clothing fastener with a decorated oval plate. This type of fastener is similar to the slightly early dress hooks but lacks a hook and was probably used as an 'eye' for a similar shaped hook. It has a rectangular loop at one end with pierced circular knops below. The oval plate is decorated with three raised concentric beaded oval borders around a central motif. This is unclear but appears to consist of loops or bows with (possibly) floral motifs within. There is a central motif which may be a face. There is a small moulded bi-lobed knop in the centre of each side and another circular pierced loop at the bottom of the fastener, with a moulded scroll on either side.
