An incomplete cast copper alloy double loop buckle, of seventeeth century date. Just over half of the frame survives. The frame would have formerly consisted of a double rectangle with an assymetrical openwork frame comprising of scrolled bifid moulding on the outer edge of each loop and a cinquefoil moulding at each end of the central bar. The pin is wrapped around the central bar and tapers to a point. The front of the buckle is slightly convex and the back is flat and undecorated. Similar buckles can be seen in Whitehead's 'Buckles 1250-1800' (1996, p. 80, nos. 498, 499). Dimensions: 31.7mm by 31.4mm by 1.6mm Weight: 4.89g
