A small copper-alloy pin or nail of probable Roman date. Similar artefacts have been found in Roman levels at Colchester (see N. Crummy; 1983; pp. 115). They are thought to have had a wide range of functions, but the smaller examples, such as this piece, may have been furniture fastenings. The head is globular and measures 4.7mm in diameter by 4.4mm high. The shaft - which is now bent - is of sub-circular section and tapers to a blunt point. The object as a whole measures 15.7mm long and weighs 0.86g.
