Copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, Polden Hill (Mackreth 2011, Part 3, Group 5.c., flat wing ends type, Western Group) from 70-110 AD. Much of the iron pin is missing, only the end protected by the head of the bow survives and this is heavily corroded. Otherwise the brooch is well preserved. It weighs 15.85g and measures 59mm in length and 40mm along the wings. The ends of the wings are decorated with 2 grooves and one line of small indentations. These decorations are only present on the front of the brooch. The upper part of the bow is broadend to form a wide section of the bow, which is otherwise narrow and diminishes to a point. Decoration of the bow consists of 9 ribs. Alternate ribs have transverse grooves and the ribs either either side of the crest rib join to form a V, approximately half way along the bow. This type of V-formation molding is common on this type of brooch.

Similar examples are 382, 383 (both Polden Hill brooches from Wiltshire) and particularly 384 (a T-shaped brooch from from Somerset) in Hattatt (1985). The catchend has a circular perforation with a diameter of 3mm.
