A complete cast lead alloy possible dog’s head hawking whistle terminal, dating to the Medieval period, probably between AD 1200 – 1500 (length: 29.5mm; width: 21mm; thickness: 14mm; weight: 25.0g).

The dog’s head terminal is sub-triangular in plan with a hollow circular socket at one end (outer diameter: 14mm; inner diameter: 11.5mm), which continues and tapers downwards inside the artefact’s length. To either side of the socket mouth (left and right), the dog’s sub-triangular ears are depicted flat against the side of the artefact and point downwards. The top of the dog’s head is flat with prominent and protruding ridged eyebrows and slightly incised small eyes. The animal’s nose protrudes outwards from the eyes (length: 10.5mm; width: 8.5mm; thickness: 10.5mm) with a sub-oval flat terminal at the end of the nose. There are no other features or decoration on this artefact and, overall, the terminal is in a worn but fair condition with a light grey patina.
