large body sherd from a large medieval coarseware jug with thumbed decoration. The fabric is dark pink-orange in colour with patches of buff-brown. Inclusions incude: frequent large angular to sub-angular iron oxide (<6mm); moderate poorly sorted white quartz grains (<3mm); moderate shelly limestone (<4mm), moderate angular flint (<3mm). Date range probably from the 12th-13th century. No evidence for use over a fire, internal surface has a grey-buff colour possibly from leaching minerals into the water contained within the jug. the vessel has very thick walls (11.96-15.44mm), measures 123.55mm x 126.48mm and weighs 325.9g
