Roman cast copper alloy Trumpet brooch, 1st to 2nd century AD. Single centrally placed short projection at the top of the trumpet head (not a loop). The hinged pin is missing; the axis bar would have been held within two cylindrical mouldings a the back of the head. There is a groove running down the bow from either side of the head to a central plain barrel moulding (flat on the reverse) with groove above and below. The remainder of the bow is undecorated and terminates in a drum-shaped foot-knob which has a central projection with groove around on its base. The catchplate is intact. Dark green patina. Traces of tinning/silvering on obverse and reverse of bow. Length: 46.68mm, thickness: 27.68mm, width: head 16.53mm, mid-bow knob 10.32mm, weight: 21.13g.
