ROTARY KEY

Unique ID: SUSS-6415A6

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A small rotary key, cast in copper alloy. The bow is circular and fairly small. There is a collar next to the bow. The stem is solid and has a projecting tip (which survives intact). The stem has a flattened circular section. The bit is simple, consisting of a square plate of copper alloy. A channel has been cut half way along the bit, parallel to the stem. A small cleft has been formed on either side of the bit, therefore forming four wards. The surface is a mid greyish-green colour and is pitted. The key is medieval in date. Parallels can be seen in Egan, p112-3, Fig: 86.
