An incomplete early-medieval cast copper-alloy strap-end, classified as Thomas' (2003, 2) Class A, Type 1. This would date the artefact to around the ninth century.

The extant strap-end is flat and broadly trapezoidal in form having been broken below the split and the perforations at the attachment end. It tapers from a width of 13.4mm to 6.05mm over its length. It is unifacially decorated on the upper face; the reverse is plain, pitted and scratched. Both faces, however, retain traces of tinning. The upper face terminates in an incised animal head with curved ears and eyes contained within lateral arcs. Behind the head there is a single field banded by a border outside which are transverse nicks. The field contains a broadly symmetrical foliate pattern and might have been inlaid with silver and perhaps niello.

The recorder is indebted to Mr Alan Cracknell for his illustration of this artefact
