PILGRIM BADGE

Unique ID: NCL-8D9943

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A pointed oval pilgrim's badge cast in a lead alloy, of late Medieval date. The badge is double-sided with no evidence for a suspension loop or mount, suggesting it may be a token. Both sides have inscriptions around the outside, but these were illegible. The face of one side bears a robed figure facing forward that is either Mary or a saint. Unfortunately, the head of the figure lacks the detail of the body. There also may have been a patterned background behind the figure, but this cannot be clearly determined. The opposite side is too worn to ascertain what was depicted. This object was found in Field 6 of the Brunstock Rally.
