A cast copper alloy Type B3 medieval purse bar. This purse bar dates to early 16th century. The entire bar survives. The two bars both have a circular section and terminate with a twisted terminal. The central block is sub-rectangular with rounded corners on the under side. The central block has been decorated on both surfaces with incised lines. On one side the lines are vertical and parallel, on the other side the lines radiate down from the centre of the block. The rove survives below the block; it is cylindrical, with a hole through its centre for the shank. The upper part of the shank and the loop are missing. The metal is pitted and is a mid greyish-green colour. Similar purse bars are discussed in the Medieval Catalogue (1967), p168-9. See Plate XXXVII.
