a fragment of a copper alloy Roman brooch. It is the upper part of a crescent type Aesica brooch, with incomplete wings. The fragment measures 21.8mm in length and is 17.35mm wide, weighing 4.8g. There is a loop on the front face, forming an oval void, 16mm in length, 7.65mm wide at the top and flaring to 11.35mm wide at its base. It rejoins the body of the brooch as a narrow strip 4mm wide. The crescent and lower part of the brooch are missing, and the fragment has much corrosion.
