Medieval gilded copper alloy buckle with plate, and remains of leather strap, 13th-15th century. Cast single-looped D-shaped frame with narrowed and off-set strap bar. Sheet pin with transverse ridge collar. Rectangular sheet plate narrowed to take the frame, and with notch for pin, narrow on the reverse, with five dome headed rivets (two at either end, one placed centrally). The plate is decorated with a border of punched hemispheres forming a wavy line. Remains of leather strap held within plate. Much gilding all over on the obverse, and some traces of gilding on the reverse of both the frame and plate. Length including plate 48.5mm, length of frame c. c.15mm, width of frame 22.01mm, thickness of frame at lip 3.75mm, width of plate c.17mm, thickness of strap c. c.2.9mm, weight 8.88g.
