BUTTON AND LOOP FASTENER

A button-and-loop fastener of Late Iron Age date. The fastener comprises a loop which merges into an integral rounded knob, or button. On the sides of the loop are teardrop-shaped areas which are extensively decorated with punched pits. The loop is similarly-decorated. On either side of the loop two low rounded swellings have been left undecorated.

Notes:

This belongs to a widely varying group of objects which are thought to have been closures for clothing.
