Copper alloy unidentified object, probably post medieval in date. In shape it is a chunky rectangle 21x18.1x9.8mm, one face of which is decorated with five moulded horizontal ribs and in the three misslde grooves is a moulded wiggly line, reminiscent of design on Roman bow brooches. To one of the long sides is a curved cut 4.2mm in diameter running the length of the side. From roughly the middle of this extends a broken ?rivet. To the other long side, at one end a two-piece projection extends 16.5mm. It is in two pieces lengthways and is perhaps similar to a slide key. However it has two rivets through it to secure it 2.5mm in diameter. There is also iron staining where it joins the main body. To the opposite end of this long edge a loop extends 9.5x8.4mm (internal 7x5mm) and from this hangs a piece of wire (1.5mm in diameter) twisted into an oval 13.5x8.8mm. The metal is a rich brown in colour and has some specks of orange on the surface, presumably iron corrosion. Length 45mm. Weighs 23.48g.
