WEIGHT

Unique ID: SF-3F4BA3

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete lead weight, possible a Roman steelyard weight. It is triangular in shape with an oval cross-section and measures 34.98mm in surviving height and 26.18mm in width, it is 23.40mm in thickness. The tapering end of the weight is missing due to old breaks. It has a central circular perforation which is filled with corroded iron. It is the presence of the corroded iron which implies that this weight may be a Roman steelyard weight as these had iron rods through them with hooks at one or both ends.
