BUTTON

Unique ID: CORN-162585

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Incomplete pressed copper alloy naval officer's button, circular in plan and flat in profile. The face of the button has been stamped with a large central anchor, with a smaller anchor below and on either side, all within a plain border. The button is bent on one side and the remains of the integral loop on the back of the button has been encompassed by corrosion product. Bailey (1992) illustrates a similar example on page 27, No.21, which he identifies as a Master's button, dating to c.1807, and thereafter it was used as a Captain's button.
