Early medieval copper alloy cruciform brooch fragment, animal head terminal only, 6th century. Narrow triple collar moulding at the junction of the (missing) upper part of the foot with the terminal. Recessed prominent bulbous eyes with two longitudinal beaded lines defining the junction between the scrolled nostrils and the lunate extension, which has a central ring and dot and damaged corners. Flat reverse. None of the catchplate survives on this fragment of the brooch. Some fine grey-green patina, much patchy light/yellow/blue green corrosion. Length 53.21mm, width 23.30mm, thickness 5.3mm, weight 13.19g.
