An incomplete cast copper alloy hooked decorative fitting from a mount, dating to the 16th or 17th century between AD 1500 - 1700 (length: 50.5mm; width: 21mm; thickness at hoop: 11mm; weight: 9.70g).

An asymmetrical hooked fitting (one of three problem fittings attached to a mount by integral suspension loops) from a sword belt mount. At one end, the fitting has a D-shaped sectioned hook (length: 16mm), which curves round to the front of the artefact with a knobbed terminal at the end. The main body of the fitting (length: 35mm) is foliate or leaf-like in form with varying widths where the shape curves in and out as well as a triple flat lobed terminal at the end. On the front of the artefact, there is also moulded foliate design with two sub-circular copper alloy rivets (average diameter: 4mm) still intact: one near the top and one near the bottom. Both these rivets protrude out fro the back of the fitting by 2.5mm. The back of the artefact is undecorated.

An identical and complete example of what the complete mount with fittings would have looked like is illustrated in Read, B, 2001, 'Metal Artefacts of Antiquity: A Catalogue of Small Finds from Specific Areas of the United Kingdom Volume One', pages 39 & 43, fig 26, ref no 373, found in West Somerset.
