Incomplete Post Medieval pilgrim badge, broken, cracked and distorted, openwork, upper part missing, comprising the figure of the Virgin Mary kneeling and praying between the foot of the cross to her left and the column at which Christ was scourged to her right. Most of the cross with the crucified Christ is missing. Cast and engraved details depict a scull and long bone lying against the grassy mound into which the base of the cross is set. The figure of Mary is nimbed, hooded and robed. The upper part of the Solomonic column is missing. The narrow base has counter-relief foliate decoration with one end concave and the other broken just beyond the mound (also partly broken). There is a flattened spike for attachment on the reverse of the figure. >39 x 29mm. 16th century.
