A Middle Early Medieval (Anglo Saxon) copper alloy pin (AD720-850). The pin head is biconical with a rounded profile. There is no collar at the junction between the head and the shaft. The shaft has a circular cross-section and there is a crack approximately a third along its length. The crack is the first part of the sharp L-shaped break that is common in these pins. Approximately two thirds down the length of the shaft the pin is bent at an obtuse angle. This was possibly done contemporaneously to secure the pin in hair or clothing or it may be later damage. Dimensions: length: 34.14; diameter of shaft: 2.07mm; diameter of head: 8.14mm; weight: 2.29g.
