Cast copper alloy ring of unknown date probably either Roman (50 – 410 AD) or Medieval (1000 – 1550). The ring is incomplete, originally it would have been circular in plan and sub-oval (D shaped) in cross section. However, the ring has been broken and is now incomplete. The two broken edges are relatively recent although they are abraded suggesting an element of wear in the ploughsoil. The ring is now penannular in plan (C shaped). It measures 13.2mm in diameter, is 9.9mm wide, and is 5.2mm thick. The internal hole has a diameter of 12.8mm. The ring weighs 11.47 grams.

The ring is a mid green brown colour with a well developed but heavily abraded patina which covers all surfaces. There is no obvious cast or incised decoration present. There are several areas where abrasion has removed this patina and light green powdery corrosion has developed. The use of this ring is difficult to interpret. It is not a finger ring as the internal dimensions are two narrow. However it might be a form of pendant or other personal adornment, being similar (or slightly larger than contemporary glass beads. It could (more likely in my opinion) have a functional use in either harness or similar functional fitting. No clear parallels have been found for this artefact; it has been dated solely on the design, weight of the metal and age of the patina.
