A cast copper single loop buckle of medieval date. The plain circular frame measures 41.51mm in diameter and 3.18mm in thickness. It weighs 13.11g. There is no constriction for the pin and the frame is of a similar thickness around its full length. The pin is wrapped around the frame, it has a rectangular cross-section and the other end tapers to a point. Adjacent to the loop is a simple moulding consisting of a transverse ridge and there is a similar moulding on the underside which effectively forms part of the loop. A similar buckle was found during excavations at the site of the College of the Vicars Choral at Bedern in York (Ottaway and Rogers 2002, pp. 2886-7, no. 14294) although the pin moulding comprises three ridges on the York example. It probably dates from the fourteenth or early fifteenth century.
