WEIGHT

Unique ID: WAW-5897B3

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A cast copper alloy trade weight. The weight is circular in plan. The base is 22.47mm diameter, whereas the upper edge is 23.11mm diameter. The base has file marks. The upper face has a lip around the edge. Within this lip there marks stamped which include a crowned ‘G’ at c. 10 o’clock position, an ewer at the 5 o’clock position, and a dagger at 1 o’clock position. The ‘G’ suggests it is a weight of a King George, and the position of the marks suggest it may be George I. The weight weighs 12.7g, which is almost half an ounce. If the weight is of George I, and this is likely, it will date to 1714 to 1727 AD.
