A pointed-oval (vesica-shaped) lead personal seal matrix of probable 13th century AD date. The printing face has a central image of a crude fleur-de-lis surrounded by a wreath-like oval border made up of small punched V shapes. The legend runs clockwise when printed and reads + S'ROGERI CAMPE (Seal of Roger Campe). There is some damage to the C making it difficult to distinguish from a G, but there are many more possible surnames starting Camp... than starting with a G. Examples include Camps, Campen and Campe itself, from the Old English cempa meaning 'warrior'.
There is a second wreath-like border around the perimeter of the seal. On the reverse, there is a central rib at the top of which is an unperforated lug handle. It measures 33.2mm high, by 20.2mm wide and 11mm thick. The weight is 18.54g.
