The coin shows evidence for pecking, small incisions made with a knife to check the quality of the silver, with 8 such marks seen on the reverse. This is often seen on Viking-Age coins, although is more commonly associated with Scandinavian finds. A number of English hoards also exhibit pecking, but the overall numismatic evidence suggests that this was most likely undertaken either in Dublin or non-coin using areas of England.This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
