A copper-alloy headstud brooch of the early Roman period. The arms are semi-cylindrical, with enamelling on the lower face of the arm and side faces of the bow. The enamelling is in red and blue and is late Iron Age British in style. The bow is not very bowed or long in comparison to the arms. Atop the bow is an enamelled stud integral with the brooch. Most of the enamelling from the stud has been lost, but small traces if blue and red remain. The catchplate under the bow has broken off. The pin or spring/hinge was made of iron, which can be seen in the pin-swivel. The brooch is triangular rather than T-shaped like most headstud brooches. The object seems to be a British craftsman's interpretation and production a Roman type of object.
