A base and body sherd from a Roman mortarium (AD240/50-400), copying Dragondorff 45. There is a fragment of a small footring remaining. The fabric is Oxfordshire oxidised red ware, with a grey unoxidised core. In interior surface is inlaid with multicoloured translucent grits, probably quartz. Reference: Young, C.J. Oxfordshire Roman Pottery B.A.R. 43
