Incomplete Early Saxon small-long brooch of Leeds’ square-headed (panelled) type in two pieces, recent break across lower bow. The footplate terminal is missing, recent break. One lower corner of the headplate is buckled (in antiquity). The square panel occupies only the middle and lower parts of the headplate. The flat D-section bow has rectangular panels forming facets at top and base, both decorated with two transverse grooves and very narrow side notches. The footplate begins with two pairs of transverse grooves and a pair of side notches, continues as a trapezoidal panel, plain apart from side chamfers, and ends at a break below half-round moulding consisting of three transverse ribs with median grooves. On the reverse a single pin lug and catchplate with small perforation, probably a casting flaw, and remains of the iron pin within the flap. Length 61mm. Width of headplate 30mm.
