A cast copper alloy Anglo-Saxon strap end. The strap end is the kind identified by Thomas as Type A Type 2, with a moulded animal head terminal. The front face above the animal head terminal has a decorative panel with an engraved geometric design. The attachment end splays apart to fit the strap; the front plate has an engraved design, probably originally a circle divided into 6 segments though now only half the circle and 3 segments remain as the top is broken off. The back plate has also broken, but slightly further up so that the remains of a perforation to attach it to the strap are visible in one corner, suggesting the whole piece was originally fixed to the strap by 2 rivets, one in each corner of the attachment end. The rear is plain.
