BROOCH

Unique ID: LANCUM-9DC203

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Cast copper alloy brooch buckle. The ring section is thick and circular. One half of the ring depicts twisted ridges in relief and the other half is smooth and rounded. The division between the two halves is very clear cut and it would seem therefore that there would have been an intentional way to wear the item. The pin is large with a length of 36mm and its thickness is 4mm. The head of the pin is largely worn. The pin is blunt and knobbled and due to its thick section the object would be too large to function as a brooch but as a buckle in the style of a brooch. There is what appears to be silver gilt remaining on the item. The object probably dates between the 13th and 15th centuries.
