A Late Iron Age to Early Roman Colchester type, one-piece brooch, from the 1st century AD. The brooch has been cast in copper alloy. The remaining part of the brooch consists of a complete bow, with incomplete wings and spring mechanism. The bow is short and tapers slightly, with a raised ridge running down its spine. The catch plate is complete apart from the return (break worn). The wings survive partially. The left one is better preserved. It is engraved with short lines mirroring the turns of the coil. The right is more abraded. The spring mechanism survives on the left wing but not the right and is made of four turns. The external chord is no longer present. The head loop is still intact. The metal surface of the object is worn. The metal has a light greyish-green colour. This brooch is similar to examples in Hattatt, 2000, pp296, Fig. 155.
