BUCKLE

A cast copper alloy single loop sub-rectangular buckle. The buckle has splayed feet and a narrowed and recessed strap bar. The top and bottom edges of the frame are curved. The front outer edge is expanded and notched (for the pin to sit in). An engraved line runs down the outer edge. The reverse is undecorated. It is complete apart from the pin, which is missing. The metal is a dark brownish-green colour. These buckles date from circa AD 1500 - 1650. Parallels for this type of buckle can be seen in Whitehead, 2003, p28-9.
