A well preserved copper alloy lock bolt dating to the Roman period. The lock bolt comprises a rectangular sectioned stem which extends to a rectangular plate with triangular cut outs creating a pattern in reserve metal resembling '/IX'. The largest of the cut outs shows signs of wear. On the underside of the lock bolt, the cut outs are surrounded by three rectangular section 'walls'. The lock bolt measures 66mm in length, 13mm in width and has a maximum thickness of 8mm. Similar examples are described by Crummy (1983), p.124, especially no. 4136.
