A cast lead alloy double loop buckle, probably seventeenth century in date. The trapezium-shaped frame has trefoil ends and a slight external protrusion at each end of the central bar. The buckle has been bent forward along the axis of the bar. The pin is wrapped around the bar and tapers towards its end. The front of the buckle is decorated with an engraved notch and a tranverse line on each end and the back is undecorated. A similar buckle from Cockington in Devon can be seen in Read's 'History Beneath our Feet' (1995, p. 144, no. 930), although the Cockington example is slightly larger. Read dates it to c. 1600-50. Dimensions: 34.38mm by 23.15mm by 2.09mm Weight: 5.1g
