STRAP FITTING

A cast copper alloy sword belt strap fitting. The fitting consists of a rectangular open frame, from which a circular loop has been cast integrally and hangs down (to one side) under the main frame. One of the shorter sides of the frame (above the loop) is narrower and off set. The opposite short side of the frame, is broken and therefore only two parallel attachment elements survive. The metal is a mid brownish-green colour and is pitted. Sword belt fittings of this type date to the 16th – 17th century.
