The spherical head of an openwork cast copper alloy pin, probably of 16th century date. Some traces of gilding can be seen. The pin head appears to have been cast to imitate the filigree work which is seen on other pins of this date, which are often made from precious metals. The sphere is divided into two hemispheres by one band of 'filigree'. Each hemisphere is formed from three circles of 'filigree' and each of these in turn is made of three smaller circles. In the centre of the smaller circles and in between the larger circles there are tiny sub-rounded decorative bosses. There are six in total on each side. A small stubb of the pin shaft is visible on the main band of 'filigree' which divides the sphere in half. Diameter: 12.31mm Weight: 1.23g
