Cast copper alloy double-loop, trapezoidal buckle with ornate moulded outer edges consisting of two outer lobes and a pointed front in the shape of a trefoil. The pointed centre of the edge of each loop is engraved with a notch, for the pin to rest on, and a transverse line which runs the length of the outer edge of the loop. The pin has been cast and the narrowed strap bar has two lobed protrusions, one at either end. The frame has a flat base and slightly bevelled upper edges and is flat in profile. The buckle frame is 36 mm long and 24 mm wide and 2 mm in thickness. The bar is 21.2 mm long and 2.5 mm wide and 2.3 mm in thickness. The pin is 21 mm long and 3 mm wide and 2 mm thick. Whitehead (1996) illustrates a similar buckle on page 84, No.524, which is dated from c.1620-1680. Read (1988) illustrates a similar buckle on page 144, No.930, which is dated from c.1600-1650.
