Wheel thrown sherd of a Roman coarse ware vessel, probably Black-Burnished Ware 2. The fabric is a light grey colour and there are signs of a darker black slip although very worn. There is cross-hatching decoration on the outer face of the sherd. There are few tiny quartz inclusions and mica is also present. Formed part of a small bowl or jar. Black-Burnished 2 could be found at the northern frontier by the end of the second century despite its production in the south-east of the country (Bedoyere 2000 page 49).
