COIN

Unique ID: KENT-AF7413

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Very worn post medieval hammered silver coin. Stamped with a half circle with seven narrow triangular projections and a 'H' on one side and FF on the other. There are several deliberate scratches on the face of the coin. These scratches and stamps appear to have been added to the coin after its original design had been worn or deliberately smoothed. The coin is likely to have been used as a love token. In the late 17th century to early 19th century, coins were deliberately smoothed and presented to others as a gesture of love. They were often stamped with the initials of the sender or recipient, or were marked with symbols of love.
